How to Care for a Butcher Block Countertop

Cleaning

Our butcher blocks, counter tops, islands and bar tops should be cleaned by washing with a mild anti-bacterial soap.

Oiling

For blocks with oil or conditioner finishes, a regular regiment of reconditioning is required. By reapplying a butcher block conditioner to your product on a routine basis, you will add moisture resistance back to your block and keep the wood from drying and cracking from repeated washing.

Maintenance

A good practice for most people would be bi-monthly conditioning with a good block conditioner consisting of beeswax, carnauba wax and food grade mineral oil.



Scratches

Minor scratches and surface wear are normal over time. Most light scratches can be reduced or removed with light sanding and proper re-oiling, helping restore the beauty of your butcher block surface.

Prevent Water Damage

Standing water can cause wood to swell, stain, or warp if left untreated. Prompt cleanup and regular maintenance help protect your butcher block countertop and preserve its natural appearance.

Refinishing

One of the advantages of butcher block is that it can be renewed for years to come. Sanding and refinishing can remove stains, scratches, and wear, restoring your countertop to like-new condition.
